Mr. Ian Cameron leads Hatch’s global ironmaking technology team which develops client-focused solutions to produce iron and steel starting from the principal raw materials. Ian has extensive international experience in process technology, plant operations, technology transfer, commissioning and training in the iron & steel industry. His experience includes coke plant, pellet plant and blast furnace design and operations, assessing steel works energy balances, and the implementation/impact of future ironmaking technologies.
Ian has evaluated future low CO2 emitting steelmaking technology trends for major global steel and mining companies, developed blast furnace operational strategies, solved acute operational problems including recovery from plant emergencies, contributed to major insurance claims, and implemented leading technical and business practices. Ian is an authority on steel plant carbon emissions and related abatement strategies, having studied this for over 10-years including the publication of several award-winning thought leadership papers. From this, he has proposed advanced techniques to reduce future blast furnace carbon emissions including the use of hydrogen, scrap melting and implementing electrically powered plasma torches. After graduating in chemical engineering, he started his career with SMS Demag (now SMS Group) in 1996 as a process engineer.
In recent years, he has acquired vast international experience in projects in the Iron-making area where he established himself as a technologist in the field of blast furnace and gas-fired direct reduction plant design with experience in India, Italy, Algeria and Korea.

Sungmo Jung is a full professor in GIFT (Graduate Institute of Ferrous Technology) for EML (Environmental Metallurgy Lab). His research focuses on the primary technology for ironmaking and crude steel production. The current topics in the ongoing research projects are related to the recycling of materials and hydrogen reduction for CO2 emission.

Antti Kaijalainen received his D.Sc. degrees in Materials and Mechanical Engineering from University of Oulu, Finland, in 2016. He is Senior Research Fellow of University of Oulu and is a leader of “Performance of Steels” group, which is focusing on usability of steel applications with 8 researchers. Wolfgang Kern is a Process Engineer with more than 30 years of experience in Sales. He started his career in the power generation and waste to energy industry with various assignments at BBC, Babcock, ABB Hong Kong, ABB Switzerland, Lurgi Frankfurt, Singapore and Taiwan.
